Barn Quilt Workshop
Friends of Homestead to Sponsor 2nd Barn Quilt Workshop
The first workshop was so popular that the Friends of Homestead is hosting a second Barn Quilt Workshop on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. This evening workshop will be from 5:30-7:30 pm at Homestead National Monument of America’s Education Center. It is open to everyone and will be led by Kay McKinzie.
Participants will get everything they need to complete a barn quilt to hang on a building or post in a yard. Along with instructions, participants will receive a primed board to pencil on a pattern, tape off the pattern and paint the first color. They will leave with the rest of the paint and brushes needed to complete their project. Pre-registration is required with Tammy Weers at First National Bank of Omaha at 402-228-4241. There is a $30 supply fee payable to Friends of Homestead with the registration form.
Barn quilts have become a major tourist attraction. There are several barn quilt trails near Beatrice and in Gage County. The goal of these workshops is to fill in some gaps and connect Homestead National Monument of America and surrounding communities with barn quilt trails to draw tourism to the area.
The Friends of Homestead is a non-profit organization created to support the educational and public programs of Homestead National Monument of America. For more information visit www.friendsofhomestead.com.
