Join us to honor the career and life of Beatrice native Gene Coon on March 2, 3 and 4th "Gene Coon: From Beatrice Nebraska to Star Trek and Beyond" will feature speakers on Gene Coon and his career and his life growing up, being a WWII and Korean War Veteran and his career in writing and producing such shows as Star Trek, Bonanza, Wagon Train and many other hit shows of the late 50's, 60's and early 70's. We will be showing two episodes from the many Westerns Gene wrote-. Bonanza- "The Ape" (1960) and Wagon Train- "The Emmett Lawton Story" (1963) Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon we will be showing two Star Trek episodes Gene wrote- "The Devil in the Dark" (1967) and "A Taste of Armageddon" (1967). We will have two Saturday morning speakers- Film historian Jeanelle Kleveland will discuss Coon’s western TV shows and Beatrice librarian Laureen Riedesel will discuss Coon’s Beatrice roots. We are happy to announce our featured speaker, David Gerrold. David is a TV Writer and Science Fiction author. He worked with Gene on "Star Trek" and was the writer of "The Trouble with Tribbles". David is the author of many Science Fiction books, actor and writer of many television shows and movies. David will be speaking Saturday afternoon before we show the Star Trek episodes. Friday night David Gerrold will be having a book/autograph signing. David does not charge for autograph but suggests a donation to the charity he is collecting for. TBA We will also be showing "The Trouble with Tribbles" written by David Gerrold and produced by Gene Coon. Saturday night and Sunday afternoon we will be showing two films the the Library. All Events at Library are no-charge. The Event Saturday at the Beatrice Community Players Theater is $25.00 per ticket early bird price. After that date it is $35.00.
