Come and enjoy its beauty along with the words of Willa Cather\, Bess Streeter Aldrich and other Nebraska writers on a Literary Walk on Sunday\, September 21 at 2 p.m.  Dr. Steven Shively will lead the walk\, stopping throughout and reading the words of these authors as they describe homesteading experienced on the tallgrass prairie.\n\n \n\nShively is currently an associate professor at Utah State University and is a nationally recognized expert on the works of Willa Cather. He edited the book\, "Teaching the Works of Willa Cather\," and has also written several journal articles on Cather. Before returning to work on his doctorate he taught English at Beatrice High School.\n\n \n\n"We expect the prairie to be especially beautiful this year and the walk using the words of Nebraska authors will make for a truly unique experience\," said Superintendent Mark Engler\, "and we are excited to have someone with Dr. Shively's expertise lead the walk."\n\n \n\nRemember\, Homestead National Monument of America has an exciting schedule of events planned for 2014.
