DESCRIPTION:Beatrice Public Library presents: Tuesday Night with the Library\n\n\n\nTuesday\, June 24\n\n7 pm\n\n\n\nHomestead Community Garden\n\n\n\nDebbie Hermance\, Master Gardener from rural Beatrice\n\n\n\nHermance is a volunteer at Homestead National Park where she is a caretaker of the Educational Garden and works with one of the Park Rangers.  In past years\, the garden was a demonstration garden using heirloom varieties of the 1800s.\n\n\n\nThis year\, the emphasis is on educating other gardeners.  There are several garden plots that have been made available to local gardeners.  Seeds for the Homestead Educational Garden were chosen by Ranger Molly Waters from the Beatrice Public LIbrary Seed Collection in early spring.  These seeds are now growing at the Park.\n\n\n\nHermance has been planting the herbs\, squash\, tomatoes\, basil\, cilantro\, beans\, peas\, and other seeds.  Volunteer corn is in the plot and there will also be some flowers.  She also saves seeds from the garden that are used for the next year.\n\n\n\nHermance will be bringing maps of the garden\, some informational handouts and will talk about the "Three Sisters" planting that she has been in involved in.\n\n\n\nThe Library will have a display of Heirloom Gardening books and free seeds can be chosen from the Seed Collection for fall gardening needs.
