DESCRIPTION:Winter Deer Survey\n\nHomestead National Monument of America\n\nHomestead National Monument of America will conduct its annual winter deer survey on February 28\, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. You are invited to come and help the monument staff count deer! No experience necessary\; all age and ability groups will be able to help. Walkers and spotters are needed.  Walkers will hike about   of a mile through the tallgrass prairie (wear long pants\, long sleeved shirt\, good walking shoes\, and appropriate coat for the weather).  Spotters will be stationed at various points along the west\, north and south boundaries to count deer as they leave the monument (wear appropriate clothes for the weather).\n\n Orientation will begin at the Homestead Education Center at 9:30 a.m. The survey will be completed by noon. Motorists on State Highway 4 need to be alert for deer crossing the highway as they drive through the monument on the morning of February 28\, 2015.\n\n "Assisting with the deer survey is a great way to get out into nature and off of the trails\, you never know what you might encounter" Stated Park Superintendent Mark Engler\n\n Remember Homestead National Monument of America has an exciting schedule of events planned for 2015.
