Homestead National Monument of America will be conducting monthly deer surveys on the last Saturday of each month at 9:30 a.m. Please come and help the monument count deer. No experience is needed; just show up at the Education Center for a 9:30 a.m. orientation. Wear long pants, warm clothes, and good walking shoes. The walkers will hike approximately 3/4 of a mile through the prairie; please keep in mind the land may be covered with snow so dress accordingly. For those who can`t or don`t want to walk that far, people are needed to watch the road to the west of the monument and count the deer as they exit. The survey will be completed by 12 p.m. Motorists on State Highway 4 need to be alert for deer crossing the highway as they drive through the monument on the mornings of the deer surveys.
