First streetcar leaves at 1 pm
On Sunday, may 4, the Gage County Historical Society presents: "A Trip Through the Suburbs." Laureen Riedesel, Director of the Beatrice Public Library will give a streetcar tour of Beatrice's only National Register Historic Districts on 7th and 11th Streets in the Courthouse Heights area. The tour is free. Riders of the streetcar are encouraged to park at Griffiths-Hovendick parking lot on the southwest corner of 7th and Washington Streets. The tour will begin at 1 pm and run according to the number of people attending. Conductor, Kent Wilson, builder of the street car and former director of the Gage County Historical Society, will conduct the streetcar. The horsedrawn Beatrice Streetcar system ran in Beatrice from 1885 to 1892. It was an important part of the expansion of Beatrice out to the suburbs.
