Junior Rangers: Plant a Seed with The Lorax!
Kids will have fun and get their hands dirty in this one-of-a-kind Junior Ranger program on Saturday, February 22 at 10 a.m. at Homestead National Monument of America’s Education Center.
Watch Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax, and get inspired to protect our natural world. This film released in 2012 is about twelve-year-old Ted who will do anything to find a real live Truffula Tree to impress the girl of his dreams. He embarks on a journey where he discovers the incredible story of the Lorax, a grumpy but charming creature who speaks for the trees. He learns the tale from the Once-ler, an elderly inventor who tells the boy how nature came to be destroyed except for one last seed, and most importantly, what he can do to turn things around.
After the movie, help the Lorax by planting your own seed to take home and treasure! Park rangers will lead a hands-on activity making terrariums. Kids who attend this program will also receive a free Lorax sustainability poster! There is no registration or fee necessary to attend.
“This charming movie is a must-see, especially for families with a love of nature hoping to inspire their children. We’re excited to share it along with a hands-on planting activity,” stated Superintendent Mark Engler.
